Far from mass tourism but romantic and scenic like its older sisters, the Cilento Coast offers picturesque landscapes and evocative panoramas, from Agropoli to Scario a continuum that seen from the sea has the charm of unspoiled places.
Beaches, coves and bays accessible only from the sea and where you can take unforgettable baths in clear and clean waters, in fact this year Cilento has been awarded with many blue flags and fully included in the guide "the most beautiful sea 2021" written by Legambiente-Touring Club.
And then caves and seabeds to explore to get to know the different marine protected areas; an enchantment that lends itself to a perfect sailing holiday.
From Agropoli to Scario, passing through the archaeological sites (known all over the world) of Paestum and Velia (Elea), knowing the blue sea of Santa Maria di Castellabate and Acciaroli or the small village of Marina di Camerota, and still sailing on extraordinary backdrops such as those of Palinuro and Scario, a boat holiday in Cilento is ideal for those seeking relaxation, culture and good food.
To visit the Cilento Coast by boat you can leave from the port of Salerno, here is the link for a boat rental idea in the next few days:
From Salerno
From Agropoli
Agropoli with its port among the largest and most served on the Cilento coast, is the gateway to Cilento. Here you can find a charter company but also diving and many other services. As soon as you leave the port and head south you enter the territory of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, one of the largest protected parks in Italy. To visit a few kilometers away is the Archaeological Park of Paestum and its Museum, one of the most important sites of Magna Graecia.
Continuing south we see the promontory of Punta Licosa, with its lighthouse and immediately after the beautiful village of Santa Maria Castellabate, with its Borbonic palaces and clear waters, protected for many years by the marine reserve.
Acciaroli, a fishing village gathered around the beautiful and tiny port, is one of the most renowned for its crystal clear waters and beautiful beaches, such as that of Torre Caleo.
Ernest Hemingway fell in love with this village, where according to local legends, he seems to have met the old fisherman who inspired the character of "the old man and the sea".
Pioppi is one of the seaside villages, such as Acciaroli, in the municipality of Pollica, a tiny village famous all over the world for the Mediterranean diet, codified by prof Ancel Keys, who stayed here for a long time to study it. Blue sea, excellent restaurants and also the Living Museum of the Sea, in whose pools the ecosystem of the Mediterranean is reproduced.
Continuing to sail towards the south you arrive in the town of Ascea, on whose beaches you can admire the sea lily, a rare and protected species, a flower that is born on the sand of an enchanting beauty. And for several years, on the same beaches, we have witnessed the hatching of the eggs of sea turtles, one of the few places in the whole Mediterranean chosen by the Caretta Caretta species to lay their eggs. Not to be missed is the Archaeological Park of Elea-Velia, where you can visit the remains of an ancient polis of Magna Graecia famous for hosting the Eleatic School, which was able to boast among its most famous exponents the philosophers Parmenides and Zeno.
From the golden beaches to the intense blue sea of Palinuro, with its caves and caverns loved by divers from all over the world. This is one of the most renowned centers of Cilento, not only for diving enthusiasts for its seabed, and for its caves such as the Grotta di Sangue or the Blue Grotto, but also for its lively nightlife. And for those who love relaxation and uncrowded places, we recommend a night at anchor in the bay of Buon Dormire, a beautiful experience.
Further south we arrive in the territory of the municipality of Camerota, at the gates of the Baia Infreschi Park, where we find Marina di Camerota, a marvel of nature set between the rocks and the sea. Baia degli Infreschi and Cala Bianca have been named among the most beautiful beaches in Italy for a decade, but the whole area is full of small coves and beaches that can only be reached from the sea. For this reason, renting a boat in Cilento is a really nice experience.
The last stop of this sailing holiday is Scario, a spectacular sea overlooking the Gulf of Policastro and lush nature, a small unspoiled paradise on a human scale. The main beaches of Scario can be reached by boat, enchanting places that are part of the protected area of the Infreschi and the Costa della Masseta. To visit the two most famous beaches, that of the Seagulls, with its small secret beach and the beach of the French, completely transparent water where you can swim among the fish.
The Cilento Coast awaits you with its beautiful coasts, crystal clear sea and breathtaking views.
