The Cannes Yachting Festival just ended up with a positive balance and an ecological awareness.

Six days of exhibitions that ended up with a lot of innovations and attention towards the environmental sustainability.

September is a very important month for the nautical sector, despite a lot of cancellations due to the pandemic situation occurred during the last year, finally, shows and exhibitions resume.

Two events during this month: one that has just ended, the Cannes 2021 Boat Show, the other scheduled for the next few days, the Genoa Boat Show, which will be held from 16th to 21st September.

The Cannes Yachting Festival, which has held from 7th to 12th of September, started the season with an exciting atmosphere and loaded with expectations, even because, a few days before the inauguration, the event has been deleted.

Six days of exhibitions, full of enthusiasm shared by everyone, from the organizers to exhibitors and visitors. The events brought with it a lot of positive feedbacks and balances and, finally, many interesting news.

For more than 40 years, this has been an unmissable event for luxury yachting because it brings together visitors and exhibitors from all over the world:

- 141 world premieres presented during this event

- 620 boats, including sails, motorboats and even super yachts

- 575 exhibitors and 54.400 visitors;

These are, briefly, the figures that have made this event a success.

The show was organized for the second time, after the successful experiment of 2019, on two distinct areas:

Vieux Port area: one of the eldest ports of the Côte d'Azur, the area where motorboats and hybrid or 100% electric boats were exhibited.

Canto Port area: an area completely dedicated to Sailing, Toys and, for the first time, an area dedicated to innovations and start-ups. And, finally, the “Spazio Broker” where thirty used boats, from 22 to 56 meters, were available, for sale or rental.

This division has worked very well by making it easier to use the spaces and making the visitor experience easier.

Inside the Palais, there were the Luxury Gallery and a selection of renowned brands that presented the latest news about high-end services and precious accessories.

Here exposed ecological innovations.

But, among all the innovations presented during this event, the most significative of those innovations was the Green Route, a green road walk where the most ecological products and all the initiatives or solutions that provide less environmental impact were highlighted through this route. This has attracted the attention of many visitors that wanted to find out what will be the future of boating.

This could be defined as an edition that accepted the challenge of the ecological transition of boating, as it had already happened in the automotive sector and beyond. In 2019 the Yachting Festival had hosted the Energy Observer, a boat where all the projects about renewable energies and hydrogen energy were presented.

The Green Route represented an acceleration on this direction, over 50 exhibitors and 80 innovative or Eco sustainable boats.

For years, the boat industry, from ports to pros through customers, became aware of the true impact of their activities on the environment, but until now the transition has been very slow, although the international provisions were aiming on protecting the marine environment.

Nowadays, innovations like hybrid propulsion, the reduction of noise pollution, the tightening on the regulation of anchorage areas in order to preserve the seabed or, finally, the will from 2022 to reserve the 1% of berths for electric boats in every port, are all small steps to become more environmentally friendly every day.

But the pleasure boat, doesn’t want to escape the environmental awareness, on the contrary, it wants to become its promoter.

The challenge is open: let the boat industry become environmentally friendly.

We will follow the next news in Genoa!
