Tropea once again the protagonist and not only for its beaches!

White beaches and crystal clear waters are characteristics that make Tropea an ideal holiday destination, but not only.

Located between the Gulf of Gioia and the Gulf of Sant’Eufemia, already winner of the latest edition of "Il Borgo dei Borghi 2021" (link here:https://boatsandgo.com/en/blog/tropea-is-the-borgo-dei-borghi-of-italy-a-top-destination-for-your-boat-holidays/), an event that rewards seaside resorts that have distinguished themselves for rigorous compliance with the criteria relating to sustainable land management and concrete environmental sustainability policies, Tropea has always been one of the most beautiful Calabrian tourist destinations preferred for boat holidays.

Its beauty has not gone unnoticed by the world of international cinema; in fact, the Marvel studio have decided to choose it to shoot some scenes of the sequel to the Captain Marvel film, “The Marvels”, which is scheduled for release in November 2022.

The announcement was made by the mayor of Tropea, Giovanni Macrì, and shooting began on 27 August.

A stellar cast that will bring the jet set to the small Calabrian town! Alongside the protagonist Brie Larson we will find Iman Vellani, Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris. The director will be Nia DaCosta who will have a script signed by Megan McDonnell, a member of the creative team of the Disney + WandaVision series.

A source of pride for all the citizens of Tropea: there will be many onlookers who will be able to look closely at the wonderful world of cinema, admiring the actors at work while shooting the scenes of a film that promises to be exciting and full of twists.

It is not the first time that Marvel Studios have chosen Italy to shoot some scenes of the most famous films, but this occasion certainly represents a great media leap for the growth of Tropea, which will bring the small village as well as Calabria among the most popular of the moment.

Tropea is not new to national film productions either, in fact the TV series "Gente di Mare" was filmed in the Calabrian village, starring Lorenzo Crespi, Chiara Francini and Vanessa Gravina.

All this is not surprising because the small Calabrian village is full of charm and history, starting with the legend about its foundation: it is said that it was the demigod Hercules when, returning from the Pillars of Hercules, he stopped on the coasts of Southern Italy.

But its history is rich and there are many traces left by the various dominations over the centuries.

Due to its characteristic position as a terrace overlooking the sea, Tropea played an important role, both in Roman times and in the Byzantine era; the vestiges left by the Byzantines testify to this, such as the church on the promontory or the city walls (called "Walls of Belisario").
