Summer 2021: small guide to green products for a beautiful and safe tan.

On the boat it is essential to have products that protect skin and hair but that respect the sea without polluting it.

Climate change, water pollution, overfishing, represent a serious threat to the marine ecosystem, but cosmetic products can also cause serious damage to it.

Today, thanks to information, we can become aware of the impact that our actions have on the environment and take on eco-sustainable behaviors.

Certainly skin and hair during the summer must be adequately protected, more if you spend a week or even just a few days of boat vacation; UV rays and salts are too aggressive a mix and therefore it is necessary to protect yourself.

Let's see some tips to consciously choose summer products in a greener way!

Organic sun and tanning creams: when exposure to the sun is greater, it is essential to protect the skin with products capable of limiting the damage that can be caused by UV rays. Many products, however, contain chemical filters that are highly harmful to the seas.

The chemical ingredients found in most of the sunscreens that are on the market are substances that once in contact with water disperse causing serious damage to the ecosystem. Oxybenzone,  octinoxate,  octocrylene, in particular, cause corals sterility and inability to reproduce, because by depositing they induce them to absorb more heat, lowering the threshold of natural tolerance towards temperature changes and causing that phenomenon that we are unfortunately learning to know that goes by the name of coral bleaching.

For this reason it is important to prefer creams and protections with natural and biodegradable mineral filters, which protect both the skin and the environment.

Self-tanning must also be chosen biologically: demonized for a long time due to the annoying orange effect, self-tanning are back in vogue. However, care must be taken to choose products that respect the skin and the environment; as for solar suns it is essential to prefer those that have a biological and natural formulation so as to protect the skin but also the ecosystem.

Protect hair in a green way: Even for our sun hair and salt can be extremely harmful, so it is essential to take care of it with treatments that protect and moisturize. But to take care of the hair in a sustainable way it is always better to prefer silicone-free and paraben-free products, however eco.

Products such as scrubs deserve a separate paragraph, it is absolutely necessary to avoid those that contain microplastics. The skin, in order to maintain the tan and give us that colorful that we like so much, must be exfoliated, in order to improve its hydration. However, scrubs and gommage often contain microplastics that are highly harmful to the seas. For this reason it is essential to prefer products made with natural ingredients such as fruit kernels, salts or seeds.

In conclusion, for a sustainable and conscious choice, it is essential to read carefully the label and inci, or the composition of each product, only in this way is it possible to understand if a product can be defined as natural and/or organic.
